Description

“When I was ten years old, I had a bad disease that caused me to lose consciousness and when I woke up, I was blind. I screamed: ‘Mom, I can’t see anymore!’ And we both started crying. It's been a very hard life for me. Nobody would give his daughter to a blind man. If I dwelled on how lonely I am, I’d have died a long time ago. My only friend is the radio.”
(Karachi, Pakistan)

Does anyone here know Humans of New York? :)

I don't draw fanart portraits that often, I like to create something on my own but I've decided to give it a try. And he moved me and inspired me more than filmstars and music celebrities and it was really awesome way to test my new Prismacolors. 7,5 hours was enough to test them perfectly (and almost cry because his sad story). Made on toned gray sketch paper :)

The progress shots will be uploaded soon :)

I'll start with that I didn't want to make this critique too sweet, so I'll start with what I miss: I'd love to see also some background even more exposing the emotions. It could be even the same colour, just not bald paper. On the other hand I somehow emotionally understand leaving it this way <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=":D (Big Grin)"/>
So you definitely deserve at least my 4,5 stars <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>

I took away also 0,5 star for originality because it's a regular portrait. But plus 4,5 because I haven't seen drawings or paintings of this man (I looked for it <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b…" width="15" height="15" alt=":D" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="366" title=":D (Big Grin)"/> ). So I can say without doubt it is original as an art based on photo <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>

Your technique is flawless. It's obvious you know how to use a pencil and how to build creation on paper. You dealt well with skin, hair, clothes - perfect <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>

Impact - I think it's obvious too. I don't know how anybody can look at this unmoved and without stopping at least for a while.
